Bowling for Soup ‘Lunch.Drunk.Love’

Bowling for Soup are an American rock group which formed in 1994. Jaret and Chris first met in the ‘80’s whilst at school. Chris went on to own a café where he and Jaret met Erik and Gary in the early ‘90’s, although Gary didn’t join the band until 1998. As well as Gary joining the band in 1998, they also relocated from their hometown Wichita Falls, Texas to Denton, Texas, to record their second album. Since the band formed they have previously released eleven albums, all of which have been of equal success. Their latest album Lunch.Drunk.Love which was released in September 2013, is bound not to disappoint fans. Here is our track-by-track review:

First track ‘Critically Disdained’ opens with some softer riffs from an acoustic guitar but fear not this doesn’t last long. You are soon greeted with the heavier punk rock sound all fans are familiar with. The song has an overall upbeat feel about it.

Second track ‘Since We Broke Up’ opens up with a lot heavier riffs than the previous song. It has lyrics that a lot of people can relate to. Although the song is about the breaking up of a relationship, they have still managed to capture the plus sides to being single, in a light hearted way. It is the perfect song to listen to if you don’t quite feel like crying following a break up.

Third track ‘Real’ is a really self motivating. Along with the heavy riffs and Jaret’s vocals, this is a song about keeping ‘Real’, being you and not changing for anyone. A song that is sure to encourage anyone with any self doubt. You should always stay true to yourself.

Fourth track ‘From the Rooftops’ makes you feel all warm inside, especially if you can relate to the lyrics. This is a real feel good song about love. The heavy riffs along with the lyrics make it not too sickly to listen to.

Fifth track ‘Circle’ is the most toned down song on the album so far. Although the riffs are slower they still possess the same heaviness. It is a heartfelt song. You can hear the emotion in Jaret’s voice.

Sixth track ‘Normal Chicks’ opens with Bowling for Soups typical punky vibe. With references to several celebrity women and Jaret stating he likes ‘Normal Chicks’ it makes for a fun song.

Seventh track ‘I Am Waking Up Today’ starts off with the sound of a clock and an alarm going off. It has fast paced riffs backed up with meaningful vocals. Definitely makes you feel awake and ready to face the world.

Eighth track ‘Couple of Days’ is upbeat and full of life. Teamed again with what some people would say cheesy lyrics, this is certainly one song to listen to.

Ninth track ‘And I Think You Like Me Too’ is more toned down with acoustic riffs throughout. This shows how versatile they are as a band. Not only can they pull off the heavier rock songs but also the slower songs to.

Tenth track ‘Envy’ has the bands signature rock/punk sound. Full of energy and certain to get fans heads nodding.

Eleventh track ‘How Far Can This Go’ is simply beautiful. The riffs and Jaret’s vocals are perfect. This track really speaks for itself.

Twelfth track ‘Right About Now’ is in your face. They’re doing what they do best and not holding back.

Final track ‘Kevin Weaver’ is non-stop from the start. It’s like you’re on a rollercoaster ride. The perfect ending to the album.

Bowling For Soup have certainly come along way since forming in 1994. This not only reflects in their music but also in the amount of fans that have stuck by them all these years. They are definitely doing something right and it shows in this album. They have once again produced another great set of songs and have shown what they do best. This is once album you need to listen to. Prepare not to be disappointed.
