Review: Ember Falls – Welcome to Ember Falls

As their splendid title suggests it is a fuel injected stomp of blood-curdling metal that is charged with deep contagion with a great vocal range from Thomas Grove and brutal screams from Calu. The harmonies are absolutely breath taking on the first track, ‘The Cost of Doing Business’ and ‘Falling Rain’ runs away with its powerful overload of melodies. This is a fully embracing concoction of melodious drama that seeks your attention with immediate effect. The synth is just amazing on ‘Of Letting Go’ – the sound encompasses you and reaps havoc on the senses. It is skilfully put together and executed with extreme preciseness and something that will warrant repeat plays on a regular basis. Jay V’s exceptional riffs are enthralling and magnetic.

Ember Falls

The agitated synth notes really stick in the mind and make their mark as they rumble and explode with devilish imagination on ‘The Enemy You Need’. It can only really be described as ‘earth shattering’ so you get a good idea of what it is all about! While ‘Freedom’ is a soft ballad and so diverse from its previous offerings and really captivating.

‘COE’ really makes good use of that synth as it roars through its paces and races towards the finishing line. It really packs a punch and thoroughly enjoyable. ‘Rising Tide’ ripples with a delightful canter of rhythms that turn frantic and spawns a catchy emotional moment.

‘Open Your Eyes’ is a very unusual track that homes in on a rap kind of vocal but not in the usual sense – it is certainly full of melody with moreish rhythms that are feisty and raunchy. ‘One More Time’ introduces the guitar back into the fold along with a strong bass lick and solid drum beat that together broods a fantastic track that again pulls no punches!

‘Shut Down With Me’ has an ambient core running through its veins along with a rapturous synth that guides it through its paces and really charges off with great vocals effects! And to finish is this track ‘The Lamb Lies Down in Sacrifice’ that holds high pitched synth notes carrying them high above the previous tracks and grazing the ears with a snarling vocal arrangement and pounding drum beats, with the harmonies once again playing an integral part of the track and adding to its rocky craggy depths.

No matter what anyone says this is truly a tremendous album!
