Review: Rebel Souls -The Forces of Darkness

As Rebel Souls shrouds over us once more in the genre of death be prepared for thunderous backlashes of impending savagery. Feel the goose bumps? Feel the angst as the terror builds?

‘Descent’ escapes violently through the speaker walls it will disturb you and cloud your senses like a thick blanket of turmoil. Its rhythms are formidable and its beats are powerful and make you feel swamped by their aggression.

As Acrimony’ plays out in such an unassuming way it suddenly plunges a knife right between the shoulder blades and will leave you for dead as it chews you up and spits out the bones.

‘Decay of a God’ lets out a brutish roar and displays angry hateful menace both in its music and vocal lure. The force of evil over good it seems. It’s however, a compelling track that leaps all over the senses and makes it unforgettable.

Rebel Souls

‘The Elementar is a stomper and doesn’t need size 9’s to make its mark on your head. It literally pulverises with a copious amount of rebellious riffs and blast beats and doesn’t loosen its grip for a second.

‘Dark Forces’ reminds me of black metal as it starts with its run of riffs that soar and raise the temperature to one of hot then cold, however, it soon returns to its death metal roots and plays out its carnal lust. Its perpetual hunger gets further evident with bilious screams and thunderous roars. The dark forces are definitely working here.

‘Fourfold Wrath’ twists and turns in an unexpected way and then familiarises itself with a fast and furious array of up-tempo savage rhythms and beats, so exploring unchartered territory other than familiar ones. There is nothing calming on this album for sure – but I wouldn’t want it – this is death metal and it is meant to stir your insides and leave it looking like an autopsy – this is Rebel Souls calling card.

‘Doomsday’ is where the bell tolls, the thunder rolls and the rain unfolds and I must take back what I said about there being no calming on the album as this is the calm before the storm – so it soon gathers momentum and savagely strikes like lightning, leaving you for dead.

This is one powerful album that secretes bile in its most brutal form and is unmerciful in its strength alone.

Rebel Souls The Forces of Darkness is out through Art Gates Records via 24th February 2017.
