Review: Trascëndental – Nothingness

Genre: Death Metal

Spanish death metal act TRASCËNDENTAL formed back in 1991 with the release of their first demo entitled ‘Uncertain Future’ being released in 1995. ‘Behind’ the band’s first debut album appeared in 1996 with their second album entitled ‘Dimensions’ appearing some two years later and sadly the band dissolved soon after.

The band self-released both albums which meant that the albums did not receive the promotion they deserved first time round, although, now some two decades later the band through Xtreem Music are seeing their discography re-edited under the title of ‘Nothingness’ which includes re-mastering and improved artwork to boot and including both original covers and flyers to take fans of the band back to nostalgic times.

The band’s style is under the classic death metal frame and can be compared to other bands such as ‘Death’ ‘Gorguts’ and ‘Polluted Inheritance’.

Trascëndental have recently released new album ‘Nothingness’, this is out step-by-step review:

Cancer of Creation

This track is a hearty welcome to open the album with thick resounding guitar played at break neck speed and doused in rhythmic contagion. The vocals are seething and raw but have a higher pitch that is intimidating and extremely powerful.

Dying

This has a primal feel to it, reaching out with an obnoxious bludgeoning beat and surly riffs – I can almost see the hair flying now in a dark pit! This is predatory and menacing and is not deprived of anything!

God’s False Answer II

This is again potent and demanding, although, I have no idea what is shouted at the beginning of this frenzied composition. It is driven with stomping beats and rich unyielding vocals.

Sorrow

Is a twisting malevolent journey that swipes of ingenuity and deep with carnivorous stature stretching out into a pit born universe – its presence is demanding and forthright and deliciously welcomed with its technical vibrancy.

ABT

Explodes with a fiendish out pouring of hatred that is contained within its muscular arms. It is fast and fuelled with a lower growl but through it shines a vehement enticing apocalyptic beauty. The riffs soar to unreachable heights and sonically challenges the aural.

Outro

The sound of a train chugging along a rail track and then over taken with a Spanish guitar only serves to give a respite before more brutality kicks in.

Millennium

At only one minute and thirty seven seconds this is just a master-piece of sheer breath-taking beauty, whilst still boasting ambiance and explores the bands diversity to the max.

Depressed

Back to the catastrophic grandeur of the band’s death metal genre, it hits right between the eyes revealing a torrent of rhythmic waves that engulf and mischievously build up to a dramatic encounter.

False Answer

Surges into view under the battering of a steely kick beat that stops briefly before ploughing through the aural like a freight train. Skilful and rhythmic it swaggers with a bold and dramatic wash.

Uncertain Future

Is an incendiary device showing off its mighty and powerful rhythms that slice through the aural like a knife through melting butter! It is sultry and embracing, however, further on in the track it suddenly leaps into a wild frenzy.

Right to Die

Literally bounces from the speakers and ravages the audial in this passionate and virulent master-piece. So fast it leaves a trail of dust in its wake! Its depth knows no limits.

The Last Day

Overwhelming and coarse it sweeps the sky clean with its far reaching tendencies to deliver its promise. Instantly setting the emotions on fire and watching them burn. This is a total assault that shows more than just mere anger!

Two Sides

From one attack to another the band keeps on delivering with a resounding ferocious onslaught of madness. This is scintillating and euphoric with its whirling grooves and exhilarating rhythmic sway.

Innocent

The sound of a baby crying and a woman’s voice which is spoken in broken English so it is difficult to pick out what she is saying, however it all adds to the brutish melee as the band bring to a close the final track, conducting barbarous and brittle riffs that mould to an already brutal battering of drum beats and steely vocal edge.

What a journey this has been. You can actually feel the beads of sweat on your forehead as the album comes to a close. It can only be described as extreme – as each riff that gushes from the speakers mesmerize and captivate the eager ears in a bid to win you over, which it truly does in every sense of the word.

This is one brutal onslaught that will have you tensed up with anticipation as it brutally murders you bit by bit, however, I do not think anyone would complain. It will leave your ears ringing and your hands shaking – which to me is a good sign as it means the band have done their job well and produced an album that really engages with the senses and emotions.

One powerful album that should be in every metal heads collection – for those days when you need a good pick-me up! This should carry a health warning! Sad to know the band have now split-up but hopefully we can coax them back onto the scene!

10/10
