Reviews: Beyond the Black – Lost in Forever

Stirring and ambient this begins with ‘Lost in Forever’, its ravishing melodies and up-tempo lilting vocal encounters. The beat is electric and the riffs are fired up and addictive. This music chooses its listener, homing in on the ears and drawing them into a magic spell. It is absolutely monstrously addictive and compelling, with excellent use of echo it’s a track that once heard you never want to end. ‘Beautiful Lies’ blossoms with fantastic melodies, thrilling riffs and male and female clean vocals that sing meaningful lyrics. ‘Written in Blood’ is literally a haunting escapade of shrill notes and then an explosion of beats throb and pursue a compelling rapturous vocal. ‘Against the World’ is a softer timepiece that gives out a bountiful ambience with full soundscape of sound. ‘Beyond the Mirror’ has an abundance of medieval attached to it with thrilling keyboard and lustful rhythms. Heavy and forthright with addictive sound.

‘Halo of the Dark’ is a breath of fresh air. With lilting vocal and haunting dream-like rhythms that embed neatly into the psyche. ‘Dies Irae’ makes a bold statement of tumultuous beats and feisty melody and is more than trot but a canter with sumptuous harmonies. ‘Forget my Name’ embellishes the sound with superb keyboard and crisp strings that sculpt a very sad story. The dual vocals of clean and grizzly help to tell the tale. ‘Burning in Flames’ strides into view with a screaming riff and powerful bass and drum beat. The catchiness never leaves its side. ‘Nevermore’ is yet another superb track that makes very good use of its instruments and makes way for plenty of angst!

‘Shine and Shade’ is an epic track with fantastic guitar and bulbous rhythms that spin their musical web and enthral with jaw dropping magnificence. ‘Heaven in Hell’ casts its own dark spell as it weaves intermittently a fast and addictive rhythm that sizzles as it spins past the ears!Love’s a Burden’ is acoustic holding a soft velvet vocal. ‘The Other Side’ immediately sends goose bumps down your spine and causes a stirring reaction, slow to ignite but quick to burn. ‘Dim the Spotlight’ bruises the ears with a full soundscape of melodic suggestiveness. ‘Our Little Time’ is a pounding ambient gallop! ‘Rage Before the Storm’ winds down the album with a medieval sound that is sad and melancholy – I don’t want this superb album to end!

Beyond the Black Lost in Forever is out via UDR Music on 13th January 2017.
