UR – Hail Death

Featuring former members of Bloodthirst and Bloodstained, Polish black metal band UR have released their debut six track EP Hail Death on Arachnophobia Records.

UR consist of the singularly named Gregor on guitars and vocals, Bony on bass, Kroll on drums and recorded Hail Death at Left Hand Sounds studio where it was produced and mixed by Marcin Rybicki (known for his work with In Twilight’s Embrace and Bloodthirst), with resultant EP featuring painted cover art by Krzysztof Sikorski.

“UR is exactly what all of us have been willing to do for a major part of our nearly 15-year long musical quest, yet for some reason had been unable to put into effect,” Gregor commented. “UR is a beast, an animal – free, untamed and unpredictable. When we meet at rehearsals, we grab our instruments; fill the glasses with vodka and just play.”

Clocking in at nearly 20 minutes, Hail Death opens with the slow mournful ‘A Dying Star’, riffs out on ‘The Tongue Of Fire’ adds euphoric hooks to that on ‘Only Bones Stay Here’, fronts static arrogance with a piercing guitar stabbing through on ‘Let The Darkness Come’, transforms from doom march into early Sabbath bleak boogie as if played by Joy Division on ‘Total Inertia’ and exudes into assorted black metal modes with the closure of ‘Infinity’.

“We do not need any philosophy for something this simple. Neither do we obey any particular stylistic framework, nor limit ourselves to it,” Gregor further noted, “The music on Hail Death came up quickly and naturally; it is minimalistic, yet thoroughly prepared; full of contrast, yet cohesive.”
