SOEN have dropped ‘Indifferent’, the fourth single from their upcoming seventh studio album Reliance, and honestly, if you need something to cater to your emotional side this week, this is it. It stops you gently, sits you down, and says: I understand how you feel. We feel it too. And you can feel it.

As Ekelöf explains, the song explores “reliance turning into absence. The quiet shock of realising that the person you lean on is no longer there emotionally.” Carried by the Atlantis string quartet, ‘Indifferent’ is a modern lament that rides on the power of strings, piano, and Joel Ekelöf’s remarkable voice.

The accompanying video, filmed and edited by Paul M Green, features a dancer transformed into a character drawn from the Reliance artwork, her movements fusing elegance with visceral expressions of sorrow that mirror the music perfectly. It’s a mood, an emotional vibe, a moment of stillness.

Their new album Reliance, arrives January 16th, via Silver Lining Music, and the Swedish progressive metal outfit continues finding new pathways between light and dark, heavy and soothing. With founding member Martin Lopez on drums alongside Ekelöf, and Lars Enok Åhlund, Cody Lee Ford, and Stefan Stenberg completing the lineup, the band’s evolution shows no signs of slowing.

SOEN have a packed 2026 ahead, including appearances at 70000 Tons Of Metal, Summer Breeze Open Air, and Alcatraz Festival, alongside a headline tour across Scandinavia and Finland. For tickets and dates, visit soenmusic.com/tour.

Reliance is available on CD, vinyl, and digital formats. Pre-order now.
