DEFECTS – AI, Raw Emotion & New Music at Slam Dunk Festival

Defects have been on the road, performing at festivals over the past few years to promote their music. RAMzine caught up with the band during Slam Dunk Festival 2025, where the band candidly discussed the vulnerabilities inherent in songwriting. Lead vocalist Tony Maue shared, “I’ve broken down on stage.”

Defects discussed their connection to alternative music, highlighting its “rawness” and capacity for conveying personal emotions, drawing inspiration from bands like Linkin Park. For them, songwriting can be emotional and sometimes poetic and other times but always centered around expressing authentic feelings. Vulnerability emerges as a central theme in their work, particularly evident in tracks such as ‘Echo Chamber’ and ‘Gone to Waste,’ which reflect personal experiences and challenges.
