A.A. Williams has always understood that shadows aren’t something to run from. They’re part of who we are. Her new single ‘Just A Shadow’ sits in that uncomfortable truth, and it’s all the more powerful for it.
The track marks her first release with Reigning Phoenix Music, and what an introduction it is. There’s an epic quality to the soundscape here. You can hear the emotion in every note, that sense of danger lurking beneath the beauty. It’s quite prog in its ambition, yet intimate enough to feel like a confession whispered directly to you.
Williams describes the song as “an ode to the darkness inside. A part of you since you can remember, a cruel friend lurking just outside of view.”
Tours alongside Cult of Luna, Explosions in the Sky, Russian Circles, and Sleep Token have taken her across the globe. Her albums Forever Blue and As The Moon Rests earned critical praise, while her covers collection Songs From Isolation caught the attention of Robert Smith and Billy Corgan.
The accompanying video, animated by Costin Chioreanu, matches the track’s haunting atmosphere perfectly.
A UK and European tour kicks off January 27th in Norwich, winding through 30 dates before finishing in Istanbul on March 7th. For anyone who’s witnessed Williams live, whether at a club show or the Queen Elizabeth Hall, you’ll know these intimate venues suit her perfectly.
With a new label partnership and fresh material, 2026 looks set to be significant for Williams. Sometimes the shadows are exactly where we need to be.
