A Life Divided… Down The Spiral Of A Soul

German modern metal quartet A Life Divided went back to their roots for Down The Spiral Of A Soul, due on 7th July. Via AFM Records, and ahead of that comes new single ‘Disorder’.

The band was formed in Munich back In 2003, by singer Jürgen Plangger (also guitarist with Eisbrecher). Ever since they have been busy being by play sold-out headliner gigs on tour with the likes of Oomph!, Apocalyptica and Mono Inc. Plangger, guitarist Tony Berger, bassist Tobias Egger and drummer Manuel Di Camillo conquered not only the hearts of fans, but also the German album charts.

While 2020’s Echoes,  with its synth sounds, was a homage to the eighties, Down The Spiral Of A Soul gets harder again, returning them to their roots. Plangger said: “Of course, the album is also a mirror of the last few years. Life outside feels more minor than major. Are the best times already over? Sometimes you feel powerless in a downward spiral.”

A Life Divided  released the first single ‘Last Man Standing’ in 2022, and the vocalist commented: “The song deals with alienation – from people in the personal environment, but also from old certainties. A feeling that many of us have experienced in recent years. Strong people falter. Some even fall or retreat into the dark corners of their souls.” It was followed by ‘Best Time’, exploring narcissistic personalities. But not everything is dark: “’Life Goes On’, for example, let’s a glimmer of hope shimmer.”

Down The Spiral Of A Soul was recorded at A Life Divided  Studio, directed by keyboard and guitar player Erik Damköhler, mixed and mastered by Christoph Wieczorek (Annisokay) of Sawdust Studios.

The album can be ordered here and you can check out the video for ‘Disorder’ here at RAMzine.
