After years of building something quietly behind the scenes, Alissa White-Gluz is finally stepping into the spotlight on her own terms.
The Canadian vocalist, one of death metal’s most recognisable voices, has unveiled ‘The Room Where She Died’ through Napalm Records. It marks the beginning of what she calls “a new chapter,” and honestly? It’s haunting and beautiful. Everything about Alissa’s image, sound and soul feels perfectly aligned here.
For those who’ve followed her Patreon journey, this won’t come as a complete surprise. She’s been quietly releasing original music and self-directed videos for her community there.
Working alongside Oliver Palotai of Kamelot, with whom she’s collaborated multiple times before, Alissa explores territory beyond what we’ve come to expect from her. The track opens with an orchestral intro before moving through catchy riffs, fierce growls, soaring clean vocals and even a jazzy interlude that catches you off guard in the best way.
“Making this music, writing the video and even painting the single artwork myself has reinvigorated me in ways I didn’t expect,” Alissa explains. “I have been honing my skills as a performer, vocalist and songwriter over many years now, and I feel like I am finally at a place where I can let my work stand on its own.”
She poured everything into this: passion, pain and purpose. You can hear it. One single in, and it’s already clear that this icon isn’t going anywhere. If anything, she’s only just getting started.
