Alter Bridge have unveiled ‘Scales Are Falling’ as the last taste of their upcoming eighth studio album before it drops on January 9th.
The track tackles that gut-punch moment when deception crumbles and you’re left staring at an ugly truth. Vocalist Myles Kennedy puts it simply: “It’s when you realise the reality of a situation where you’ve been deceived. You see the truth and how harsh it is.”
What stands out immediately is the songwriting precision here. The production is clean without feeling sterile, and there’s an atmospheric quality that builds through genuine peaks and valleys. But the real highlight? That pre-solo and solo section is perfect. Guitarist Mark Tremonti takes over the bridge while Kennedy handles the outro, showcasing the kind of guitar interplay that’s defined this band for two decades.
“I was excited for this one,” Tremonti explains. “It has an atmospheric vibe with a lot of peaks, valleys, and moods.”
It’s quintessential Alter Bridge: Kennedy’s distinctive vocals soaring over melodic riffs that hit hard. The visualiser, crafted by Marcin Pospiech (known for his work with Nine Inch Nails and Tool), accompanies the release.
The self-titled Alter Bridge features 12 tracks recorded at the legendary 5150 Studios in California with longtime producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette. Standouts include ‘Trust In Me’ featuring vocal chemistry between Kennedy and Tremonti, the crushingly heavy ‘Tested And Able’, and closer ‘Slave To Master’, the longest track the band has ever recorded.
The What Lies Within Tour kicks off January 15th in Hamburg, with Daughtry and Sevendust as special guests. UK dates include Newcastle on February 25th, Manchester on the 26th, Glasgow on March 2nd, London’s O2 on March 4th, and Nottingham on March 5th.
The band has also announced their inaugural Blackbird Festival at Cardiff Castle on June 27th, featuring Skindred, Bush, Florence Black, and Cardinal Black.
