Blindead 23 Debut with Deuterium

Come 24th April, Deuterium, the debut album from Blindead 23, becomes a reality courtesy of Peaceville Records.

If the name rings bells, they formerly went under the shorter moniker of Blindead, and this Polish avant-metal juggernaut is led by ex-Behemoth member Mateusz ‘Havoc’ Smierzchalski (guitars, synthesisers, piano and soundscapes) with guitarist, keyboardist and vocalist Roger Öjersson (ex-Katatonia), drummer Pawel ‘Pavulon’ Jaroszewicz (Vltimas, ex-Vader, ex-Decapitated) and vocalist Patryk Zwoliński. Arrangements and recording for the new album also included Maciej Janas (guitars, piano and backing vocals), Vinicius Nunes (bass) and Stephane Azam (synthesisers).

This new incarnation of the band blends the atmosphere of early Blindead recordings, sludge and post-metal with heavy riffs and mesmerising electronics, into an evolved and elevated new form, while continuing to honour past material during their visceral live performances.

Recorded as far back as spring 2023 and produced by David Castillo (Opeth, Carcass, Katatonia, Leprous) at Studio Gröndahl in Stockholm, the album was then carefully moulded and refined over the following years, with mixing and mastering duties carried out by longtime friend of the band, Kuba Mańkowski.

Deuterium has been described as a conceptual journey, one that manifests as an uplifting yet often sombre expression and reflection of the soul, with the intent being to create unique, experimental and progressive metal.
