CBZK, a new project that fuses hip-hop, industrial, and black metal, will self-release their debut EP Dybuctwo on 11th April.
Ahead of the EP’s release, the band unveiled the first single and video ‘W Głębi’ that translates as “deep within”.
“The whispers, scattered above the tremolo guitars and a stomping beat, are asking unnervingly,” said the band. “Will the shadowy figures in black hoodies give themselves away? Do they actually feel at all, somewhere, deep in the hood? ‘W Głębi’ is a take on the Slavic detachment and inscrutability.”The eerie soundscapes on Dybuctwowere birthed from a collaboration between Kopczak (Malconfort) and Fas(Sea Mosquito, Malconfort, Amaltheia). Formed in 2023 across the diverse landscapes of Sanok (Poland), Bristol (UK), and Crete (Greece), CBZK is a unique fusion of hip-hop, industrial and black metal. The project was created from half-forgotten techno loops, tremolo riffs and demented whispers, which resulted in an electronic expansion of the project members’ sonic realm.
Featuring the tracks ‘W Głębi’, ‘Płyty’, ‘Topiel’, ‘Duchota’ and ‘.’, Dybuctwo delves deep into the surreal and unsettling aspects of Subcarpathian identity in Poland, exploring themes of distant closeness, camaraderie, and the inevitability of passing. Drawing inspiration from small-town atmospheres, Kopczak and Fas crafted an industrial soundscape that weaves together hypnotic hip-hop and black metal phrases, jarring distortions and evocative field recordings.
The lyrics explore the everlasting tensions between resilience and hopelessness, passing and death, closeness and alienation. The CBZK lyrical realm, seemingly oneiric and allegorical, is a collage of past and present realities of Subcarpathia, weaving together personal stories, mores and regional folklore.
