Greek doom/darkwave trio Church Of The Sea has unveiled the title track of their upcoming album Eva, that will be released on 11th April via These Hands Melt.
Available now via all streaming services here, ‘Eva’ reimagines the biblical story of Eve, challenging the traditional narrative and celebrating her defiance. The band explained: “’Eva’ is a twist in the story from the Book Of Genesis, where the female is not seen as the sinner for seeking knowledge, but as the rebel that embraces what others consider forbidden”.
Formed in 2017 in Athens, Greece, the three individuals in Church Of The Sea create a distinct sound, balancing between doom and dark electronic rock. They embrace fuzzed sounds, heavy distorted beats and ethereal, chant‐like vocals. The result is a unique atmosphere where doom’s heaviness meets the dreamlike state of shoegaze and the shrieks of noise‐rock.
Their debut EP Anywhere But Desert, was released back in 2 October 2018, and followed in February 2019 on cassette, then two months later on vinyl. Their debut album Odalisque was released in April 2022. The recording of Eva was made at Suono Studios, while Alex Bolpasis was responsible for the engineering, production and mixing. The album was mastered by Nick Townsend at Infrasonic Mastering.
The band has taken part in several festivals (Happening Now, Cult of the Amps, Templefest), and was the opening act for numerous bands, including Antimatter, The Murder Capital, Messa and Dool. Their track record also includes two sold-out performances at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Athens.
The album will be released in digital and CD formats, with a limited sunburst edition on vinyl, and can be ordered here.
