Is Austen Starr the Enemy? New Release Out Now

Out now, I Am The Enemy, the new album from Austen Starr, alongside a new single in ‘Until I See You Again’.

“This song describes the origin of my villain arc,” the singer explained regarding her latest single. “It’s the story of what I assume was the catalyst for my self-deprecating character, and speaks to the things I’ve done in my life to try to karmically rectify a situation that cannot be rectified. This is the most personal song on the album, and it starts with the intent to give myself grace, and ends with a resolute never mind.

“Paired with the upbeat, carefree melody and music, it’s a catchy, almost anthemic declaration that I will continue to destroy myself until the day I die. I consider this song to have a happy ending. It was built to process something that haunted me for the majority of my life, and it did culminate in a sense of liberation. I hope you enjoy it!”

Featured on the album are guitarist Joel Hoekstra (Whitesnake, Revolution Saints, Iconic, Cher, Trans-Siberian Orchestra), alongside Chris Collier (Mick Mars, Lita Ford) on bass and drums, keyboardist Steve Ferlazzo (Hugo’s Voyage, Avril Lavigne) and background vocalist Chloe Lowery (Trans-Siberian Orchestra).

The album delivers a hard-hitting blend of contemporary rock with classic influences, drawing comparisons to artists like The Warning and Halestorm while infusing a more traditional hard rock sound. Starr is a reluctant Bostonian with a penchant for self-induced misery. A natural contrarian, she was raised in a household where being a musician was the last thing she was encouraged to do, so of course, Austen recorded an album with the help of some heavy hitters.

“I’m ecstatic to finally be releasing an actual album!” said Starr. “This project has been a long time coming, a lifetime in the making, as cliché as that may be. It’s a really wild feeling to be putting music out into the world after being so afraid to for the duration of my existence, and the fact that the first couple of songs have been received well is completely blowing my anxious, self-deprecating mind. With the release of this debut album, I feel like I’m putting my life in your hands just to see what you’ll do with it. It’s terrifying, exhilarating, and freeing.”

I Am The Enemy features the tracks: ‘Remain Unseen’, ‘Medusa’, ‘I Am The Enemy’, ‘Read Your Mind’, ‘Get Out Alive’, ‘Effigy’, ‘Running Out Of Time’, ‘All Alone’, ‘Not This Life’, ‘The Light’ and ‘Until I See You Again’.
