It’s been a long time since RAMzine reported on the activities of Finnish rock band The 69 Eyes – 2019 in fact, back when they were celebrating their 30th anniversary. Now in 2026, they’re starting a brand new chapter in their career, announcing their signing to BLKIIBLK, the heavy metal imprint of Frontiers Label Group, and the release of a new single ‘I Survive‘, along with an official music video to boot.
As if that’s not enough, ‘I Survive‘ guest features and was co-written by Steve Stevens, best known as Billy Idol‘s guitarist and songwriting collaborator, and for his lead guitar work on the theme to Top Gun (Top Gun Anthem), receiving the Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance in 1987. “Our new single, ‘I Survive‘, written by guitar legend Steve Stevens and Jyrki 69 is The 69 Eyes at our best: simply rocking!” said the band, adding, “The track is mixed by Barry Pointer (Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe etc) to bring the extra Hollywood magic in.”
Formed in Helsinki in 1989 and still going strong with the same lineup some four decades later (Jyrki 69 on vocals, Bazie on guitar and backing vocals, Timo-Timo on guitar, Archzie on bass and backing vocals, with Jussi 69 on drums), these Helsinki vampires have earned themselves legendary status. In a world with fewer and fewer true believers in leather jackets, midnight sunglasses and low-slung guitars, The 69 Eyes keep the Johnny Thunders‘ flame burning like an endless sleazy club night back in the days.
One foot in glam, another one in goth, The 69 Eyes have notched up thirteen album releases, achieving gold and platinum sales and mainstream status in their homeland, while touring constantly worldwide. 2005’s ‘Lost Boys‘ was their biggest single, with its video featuring MTV’s Jackass star and skater Bam Margera and a perennial on annual Halloween rock playlists.
