Out now, Battlestation, the second album from French songwriter, musician and vocalist Lucie Sue, available via Sphynx Music, so too new single video ‘Bela’.
‘Bela’ is a genre-bending, dark cinematic metal piece inspired by Béla Bartók and Transylvanian Bucsumí Tánc dance, reimagined through Sue.
“‘Belaa’ isn’t just a song, it’s a statement: cinematic, feral, bold, and emotionally devastating. It caps off a bold artistic vision that’s already connecting across Europe and the US,” she said.
Inspired by F.W Murnau’s Nosferatu & Tod Browning’s Dracula, ‘Bela’ is a tribute to vampire’s movies. Falling into the public domain, excerpts from these mythical films are blended with Lucie Sue’s modern edge. The footage is intentionally aged and glitched, and the special effects embrace the kitsch charm of those old-school films. It’s a family affair : Lucie Sue’s father plays Bela, and her brothers handled all the camera work and technical stuff.
Retaining TuneCore for digital distribution, Sue has signed a physical distribution deal with Listenable Records for both vinyl and CDs editions of Battlestation – The record available in different formats: crystal CD case, collector’s pink vinyl (limited edition of 500 copies) and digitally is across all main platforms.
A collection of 13 tracks, Battlestation is an invitation to an eclectic journey. Lucie Sue refuses to be boxed in; she thrives on daring mixes and surprising fusions: a blend of 90s grunge, hard rock, metal, and with a classical twist.
A mother of two, Sue crafted Battlestation at home, in her living room. Lyrics, music and instruments, were single-handedly forged, but she wasn’t entirely alone on this battlefield.
Her brother, Baptiste, her lifelong accomplice, lent a hand with recording and fine-tuning the arrangements. Her band mates Enzo (guitar) and Mitch (drums) also recorded and arranged their own parts on the record. Thanks to a crowdfunding campaign and precious support form her loved ones, part of the funding was secured. The rest? A daily grind to unearth the missing funds. But Sue is living proof that with the right ideas, relentless hard work, and boundless energy, you can move mountains: she dropped eight singles and their videos in eight months on a ridiculous budget.
Each track is a slice of life, a true story, drawn from her childhood, relationships, love, grief, the afterlife. Everything is approached with raw honesty and mind-blowing lyrics! And to top it all off, an unexpected, yet exceptional, collaboration: Satchel, the guitarist from Steel Panther, on the track ‘Ride The Wired Wild Tiger’.
Sue commented: “More than just an album, Battlestation is a message of hope for those who doubt, who hesitate. It’s the shining proof that you can try anything, at any age, no matter the situation. Your only real enemy is yourself. So, never stop believing in yourself! Go for it!”
“You’ve been warned: the beast is unleashed!” Lucie Sue continued “Battlestation is gonna shake your guts and your soul. This isn’t just a record; it’s a a raw punch bor from a relentless, insane determination”.
Intended as a defiant and hilariously poignant take on aging in the rock world, her last single ‘Burn Your Candles’ delivered raw, ultra-positive energy. While headbangers are getting older, facing colonoscopies, rheumatism, or incontinence, their passion remains fiercely intact, burning bright until the very end.
‘Burn Your Candles‘ tackles the undeniable march of time with a wink and a roar. The lyrics playfully confront the inevitable signs of aging for rock legends and their audience. It’s a powerful reminder that while the body may change, the fire for headbanging never dies.
The music video, shot by Remi Capdeville during a private party, features Lucie Sue and her band, intercut with glimpses of their future selves – The same band members, 30 years older, still rocking out with unbridled passion and immense joy. It’s a powerful, fun, and slightly absurd visual testament to the song’s
“This song is a kick in the ass to the fear of aging. Do we have any choice? No! So let’s own it, and live it wide open. No brakes, no filters, no mute, just the will to be and enjoy” said Lucie Sue.
It follows previous single ‘Reckless’, that in her own words: “is an anthem for the bulldozer souls”.
With this track Sue drops a blast of raw and supercharged energy; a song to tear everything down and push forward, without ever looking back. Lucie Sue’s not asking for permission anymore. She’s going full speed, full fire, full confidence. Once again, the French artists manages to deliver a song in which the lyrical and the musical dimensions are woven into each other. ‘Reckless’ brings 3:48 minutes of pure rock: every note pushes you forward, every second screams freedom.
“After cutting myself off from so many things in life, I decided to flip the script. This song is a kick in the ass to hesitation. It’s a manifesto for living wide open. No brakes, no filters, with the raw hunger to just be,” said Lucie Sue.
The single is accompanied by an impressive video. Shot in the dead of night in a supermarket in the southwest of France, the band unleashes its magnetism right between the leeks and canned beans.
The video, directed by Remi Capdeville, flips the script, turns the mundane into magic, and shines a light on the everyday. Proof that power can come from anywhere, even under the cold neon glow of the sausage aisle.
Lucie Sue is already being embraced in her native France, and on her way to becoming one of the leading figures in French rock and metal. Alongside band members Mitch, Laura and Enzo, Lucie Sue is set to release her 13 track debut UK album later in 2025, alongside to be confirmed live dates across Europe
This child of the MTV generation, raised on 90s Anglo-Saxon bands, escaped to the sounds of L7, Metallica, and PJ Harvey, after her cello lessons at the Lyon National Conservatory. Passionate about visual arts, she became an accomplished art director. But, during the lockdown, she became known on social media with creative and funny cover versions, in which she plays all the instruments. This led to her composing, recording, producing and releasing her first album To Sing In French in 2023.
She was spotted by Richard Gamba, Gojira‘s manager for nearly 10 years, who signed her in September 2024. A rapid advancement followed – including being added to the MainStage 1 of Hellfest and signing with the European agents We Live.
