The Mary Tyler Whores Whip It!

Punk rock chaos has erupted with The Mary Tyler Whores unleashing their fourth single and video, Whip It‘, via Golden Robot Records. Produced by punk legend Greg Hetson (Circle Jerks, Bad Religion), it’s a turbocharged, high-voltage version of Devo’s cult classic.

For frontman Frankie ‘Crime’ Cassara, this cover is more than just a tribute – it’s a full-circle moment.

“The first time I ever heard Devo’s ‘Whip It’, I was 10 years old in Bushwick, Brooklyn. My father took me to my brother’s dive bar, and the song was blasting while some wild daredevil chick was riding a mechanical bull. That moment seared itself into my brain. I asked my brother, ‘What the hell kinda music is this?’ and from then on, Devo became a cornerstone of my love for punk and new wave.” A band known for their reckless abandon and rebellious spirit, The Mary Tyler Whores took on ‘Whip It’ as both die-hard fans and fellow misfits in the punk scene. “Devo were like mad punk scientists – anti-rock, full of humour, anger, and bizarre visuals. We’ve always carried that same weird, chaotic energy. Covering ‘Whip It’ felt like the perfect way to pay tribute while ripping it open for a new generation.”

Shot in downtown Los Angeles in January 2025 – right in the middle of the city’s wildfire devastation – the‘Whip It‘ video is a high-intensity, no-holds-barred spectacle. Directed, edited, and enhanced with SFX by Faust (Infinivision), with cinematography by Blake Russ, and Money$Punk Productions backing the madness, the video blends surrealism with pure punk destruction.

Legendary producer Greg Hetson even makes an appearance, opening the video as a retro 1980s-style MTV VJ, announcing an alien invasion over Los Angeles. What follows is pure punk mayhem:

“We invited friends and selected fans to a private live performance, all dressed in full ‘80s spirit. In true Mary Tyler Whores fashion, we pillaged, we plundered, we danced, and we absolutely destroyed the set. Of course, we paid for the damage – watch the video to see the chaos unfold!”
