Max Avoidance is the alter ego of electronic composer and producer Hari Limaye who’s just made two single available ‘Alone‘ and ‘Lightyear’.
Limaye has composed soundtracks for haute couture campaigns by fashion houses such as Hermes, Calvin Klein and Coach, scoring projects for Kendall Jenner. He’s also producied electronic, rap and gothic music since his early teenage years, and will be releasing his debut EP in early 2026 that’s been described as “a woozy concoction of atmospheric darkwave, experimental electronic and dream pop”.
For many years, Limaye lived a double life: a gifted child who started medical school, whilst moonlighting as a score composer to the high fashion industry, before personal trials led to the whole thing falling apart. He has since undergone a journey of healing underpinned by resilience, pent years honing his sonic craft, deriving inspiration from adverse lived experience.
Commenting on ‘Alone’ he said: “Being alone isn’t the same as being lonely, being centred in oneself isn’t the same as being self-centred. I used to love playing my parents’ record collection – The Cure, Magazine, Cocteau Twins, Joy Division, Siouxsie And The Banshees – I wanted to write something that was a homage to them with a 21st century take on those sounds and out came ‘Alone’.”
A sweeping psychedelic reflection on the growing distance between friends and lovers, he said of ‘Lightyear‘: “What if distance was a feeling? It would feel like Lightyear.“We are all memories across space and time, and like everything in the universe, we will return to cosmic dust and regenerate in a timeless cycle.”
Both songs were recorded at his family home in Wales on the storm-swept Gower coast and then finished in his home studio in London, as he explained.
“I was holed up in a house with no heating in the depths of winter with my friend Christian (OC Saint) in the middle of a storm. The fuses for the lights had blown but we still had power. In the shadows of candlelight, the noises swirling and crashing around outside made it feel like the ghosts of iron-age village ancestors were encircling us. I think you can hear some of that in the songs”
Psychedelic and glitchy, dark and hopeful, Max Avoidance’s debut EP is due in 2026.
