It’s the end of an era. Megadeth, the band that helped define thrash metal and pushed the genre into uncharted territory for four decades, are preparing to close this chapter with a cinematic event that feels both celebratory and bittersweet.
Megadeth: Behind The Mask will premiere globally on 22nd January 2026 across more than 1,000 screens in 35+ countries through Trafalgar Releasing. The film arrives one day before the release of Megadeth, the band’s self-titled final studio album. Tickets go on sale 11th December.
Audiences will experience track-by-track reflections from Dave Mustaine himself, offering insight into what he calls “the creative fire that drives them. “This listening event is going to be amazing,” Mustaine says. “I can’t wait to share it with thousands of my closest friends around the world.”
For those of us who grew up with Megadeth, who wore out copies of Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying? and Rust in Peace, who watched them evolve and push boundaries while never losing that essential ferocity, this announcement lands heavy. These are genuine legends walking away from the studio on their own terms. That matters.
The current lineup features Mustaine alongside Teemu Mäntysaari on guitars, James LoMenzo on bass, and Dirk Verbeuren on drums. They’ve already released two tracks from the album: ‘I Don’t Care’ and ‘Tipping Point’. A reimagined version of ‘Ride the Lightning’, co-written by Mustaine during his Metallica days, will appear as a bonus track, bringing his career full circle in a way that feels genuinely poetic.
Fifty million records sold. A Grammy win with 12 additional nominations. Seven Top 10 Billboard entries. But statistics never captured what Megadeth meant to metal. They were the band that proved technical brilliance and raw aggression could coexist, that thrash could be intelligent without sacrificing its teeth.
The film will screen for one night only. Don’t miss your chance to witness the final statement from one of metal’s most essential voices.
