Kentucky’s renegade rock and roll band Mojo Thunder has just released ‘Coming Back To You’, taken from their sophomore album The Infinite Hope that’s out now.
A fun, uplifting rocker written by guitarist Bryson Willoughby, lyrically the song reads like a love letter with conviction, passion, and assurance that despite any distance, no path is too far to come back from. Simply put, it’s unfettered devotion that isn’t ashamed to be honest.
“There’s a lot of tropes in rock and roll where artists indulge in this toxic machismo,” said Willoughby. “It’s boring, overdone, and I wanted to say something real. Something that showed my relationship the respect it deserves, and above all else, was truthful.”
A curious see-sawing lullaby guitar refrain plays out, interjected by a staccato rhythm section, that you feel somehow shouldn’t work but pulls you in regardless, while vocalist Sean Sullivan’s smooth tones romances you further. Lines like “I don’t have much but you can have it all” stating its message from the get-go. It’s feel-good summer loving from start to finish, its tempo fleshed out as it rocks away with the kind of optimism that even aged-old soaks like this writer can respond to with a warm smile.

The Infinite Hope explores topics such as activism (‘Caroline’), tragedy (‘Memphis’), the dark side of the American south (‘Holy Ghost’), love (‘Grace’, ‘Coming Back To You’) and the search for truth (‘Greetings From Western Art’). Champions of self-empowerment and authenticity, the band has cultivated a community built around acceptance. There is a sense of belonging in the music, and as the album title suggests, a call for hope.
Produced by Duane Lundy (Ringo Starr, Justin Wells, Sturgill Simpson) at the Lexington Recording Co. Lundy said, “We all shared the desire to do things as a unit, to perform, to mine for as many dynamics and emotion in their performances, but still putting the priority on the songs.
Lundy continued, “The lyrics are thoughtful and meaningful, something that I feel like is often slighted in current rock material, but my main takeaway was the quality of people they are. Their invitation meant a great deal to me, and I feel like I have four new family members.”
Tracks featured on The Infinite Hope are: ‘The Sun Still Rises’, ‘Coming Back To You’, ‘Step By Step’, ‘Let it Fall’, ‘Holy Ghost’, ‘Memphis’, ‘Caroline’, ‘Gettin’ On A Binge’, ‘Grace’ and ‘Greetings From Western Art’ and it is available to order here.
‘Coming Back To You’ is Mojo Thunder’s fourth single taken from The Infinite Hope, previously releasing ‘Let it Fall’ written by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Sean Sullivan, guitarist Bryson Willoughby, and drummer Zac Shoopman. It has been described as “an emotionally rich rocker that truly defines what the band refers to as Southern alternative.”
“It is about personal mistakes that lead to losing someone you’re in love with,” said Sullivan about the single. “Seeing as nothing new (perhaps better) can begin until the old has been put to rest.”
Willoughby, who penned the track’s title added, “We often deny ourselves grace in our lowest moments, and ‘Let it Fall’ embodies accountability, forgiveness, and the permission to let go so you can move forward.”
Commenting on the song structure Shoopman said, ” It was a true exercise in playing only what’s necessary for me. The way everything weaves together and climaxes into the final chorus feels great.” Of his lyrical contributions he added, “The idea that we’re all just a bit of evolved cosmic debris is fascinating to me, which is where the line about being dust from a star came from.”
On the album as a whole bassist Andrew Brockman said, “We’ve tapped into something I don’t think we were capable of a few years ago, and it’s been awesome to grow as musicians and people with this group.”
Certainly, anyone who’s heard their recent single releases will agree that this is a band to keep an eye on, but more so clean lugholes – New single ‘Let it Fall’ is perfect summer sounding music, a song to be played loud as you’re driving with the windows down, the bitter sweet catch being this isn’t good time party rock it’s soulful in its empowering delivery, being about escaping emotional trauma and reconnecting with the things that count.
That single is available on all streaming platforms here and you can check out the official music video for it here at RAMzine.
