Having met success with her fifth album, Poświaty, released last year, Polish artist Ols, known for her evocative dark neofolk soundscapes, has released the record’s closing track, ‘Bez Nas‘ (translated as “without us”), as her latest single and accompanying video.
Described as a dreamlike tale of drifting away, from love, from a former self, and from the sacred myths of childhood. The track explores memories taking on the texture of a dream, shifting and entangling until the past becomes a fable. Its intent to reflect the indifference of the cosmos and that while a personal apocalypse may occur, nature continues its cycles, oblivious to our loss. Initially centred on melancholic piano, a heavy guitar driven chorus that draws inspiration from the likes of Cult Of Luna soon enters the picture, while weaving musical quotations from earlier tracks on the album.
Anna of Ols commented: “The world that once felt ours no longer belongs to us, and someone we once loved becomes distant and unfamiliar. ‘Bez Nas‘ works like an echo: it recalls and amplifies earlier themes without offering resolution. Instead of closure, it leaves space for melancholy and quiet pain, allowing the afterglow of this story to linger just above the surface.”
Poświaty is available via Pagan Records.
