Scorched Earth: Volume 2 Live in LA/London is set to blaze through your preferred listening device on 1st May, so take a step back or take those buds out as internationally acclaimed guitarist Philip Sayce fires up his new album.
Ahead of that comes new single ‘Morning Star (Live)’, following in the wake of previous single ‘Peace Machine (Live)’ that debuted late last year, with both available on streaming services and a powerful preview of the raw intensity and emotional fire that define the full live album.
Within the first five seconds of ‘Morning Star (Live)’, the new single from Welsh-born, North America-residing guitarist Philip Sayce, there’s more inventive fired-up six-string fury than most folks this side of Robin Trower put on a whole album. He reworks those themes over the next five seconds before settling into a Hendrix-stepped blues rocker that won’t disappoint those into fuzzed-up psychedelics come solo time.

As its title suggests, Scorched Earth: Volume 2 Live in LA/London was recorded on both sides of the Atlantic. It captured a triumphant run of sold-out performances at legendary Stateside venue The Baked Potato in Los Angeles and a packed, over-capacity show at The Garage in London. Tracks featured on this new live album are: ‘One Foot In The Grave, Once’, ‘Bitter Monday’, ‘Peace Machine’, ‘Lady Love Divine’, ‘5:55’, ‘Morning Star’ and ‘Spanish Castle Magic’. The album is available through Atomic Gemini Records.
Following on from Sayce‘s initial Scorched Earth release, Volume 2 delivers the fearless improvisation, volcanic guitar work, and deep emotional charge that have cemented his reputation. “A sonic firestorm blending blues grit, psychedelic soul, and high-wire rock ‘n’ roll” is what we’re promised from Sayce, who is backed by bassist Sam Bolle and drummer Bryan Head, who will also be performing with him on his upcoming May/June UK tour. The album’s sonic depth and clarity are elevated by GRAMMY Award-winning mixing engineer Mark Rains and GRAMMY Award-nominated mastering engineer Brian Lucey.
“These shows were pure electricity,” said Sayce. “There’s something powerful about capturing a moment when the band, the songs, and the audience are completely locked in. LA and London brought that magic. We lit the fuse, and you can feel it.”
