We’re in This Together… Nothing More

Gearing up for a headline European tour that begins in Finland this November and rollsi nto the UK December, 3 times Grammy award nominated and four-time #1 rock outfit Nothing More has released their interpretation of Nine Inch Nails‘We’re in This Together’

Originally from NIN‘s 1999’s The Fragile, it’s a song that has long great meaning for theboundary-pushing alternative metal band—Jonny Hawkins (Vocals), Mark Vollelunga (Guitar), Daniel Oliver (Bass), and Ben Anderson (Drums)—and one they in fact started recording 11 years ago before being sidetracked by creating their own music.

“‘We’re in This Together’ sounds like a love song colliding with a war cry,” said Hawkins. “Alan Watts (the British American writer and orator) once said that ‘you are the universe experiencing itself’ – and this song embodies that truth. It’s us against the world, and this song is my inner monologue.”

The band’s guitarist Mark Vollelunga elaborated. “This song is from my favourite Nine Inch Nails’ album, The Fragile, and by far one of my favorite NIN songs. It’s such a beautiful cataclysm. Essentially, it’s a love song, but as I dove deeper, my interpretation shifted to it being about my relationship to my personal demons and mental trauma. It’s about making peace with those monsters and accepting who and what they are while realising they will always be a part of me,” he added. “It took a long time to achieve that cathartic clarity in regard to the very real nature of that evil’s presence. We actually started recording the song 11 years ago, and it’s just been lying in wait until recently. I was upset we hadn’t released it earlier, but I now believe its relevance and timing couldn’t be more immaculate.”

The standalone single can be streamed here and you can check out the video below.

Currently on tour to promote their latest TRON: Ares (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) album, Nothing More has received four No. 1 singles from a single album – Placing them in alongside Metallica, Linkin Park, Five Finger Death Punch, Papa Roach, and Falling In Reverse in achieving this.

This was attained with the release of ‘Freefall’, featuring Chris Daughtry. “It’s been incredible to see a song that means so much to us resonate with so many of you,” said bass player Oliver.  “We’re very honoured to have Chris Daughtry lend his voice and spirit to this one. Huge thanks to K9s For Warriors for the amazing work you do, and to everyone else who helped bring this song to life. You’ve taken us to the top of the charts for the 4th time in a row!”

While, Chris Daughtry himself said: “It’s a privilege to celebrate this win with a band I admire and love so much!”

However, there’s also been some concern by music fans for following only a video  teaser trailer for Nothing More’s ‘Existential Dread’ single an online debate commenced about the use of AI to create music videos and art sparked quickly. The next day, the band’s singer Jonny Hawkins spoke with RockFeedto personally share his thoughts.

He also commented on the band’s Instagram site in response to fans being unhappy with the AI medium. “AI didn’t make a video for us. We hired an artist, I plotted out a vision, theme and visuals. Then that artist used AI to start generating images that he edited together through multiple versions with notes… and then tweaked that into a visual experience for the viewer.” Hawkins adds: “There is a huge difference between letting a machine create something and using a machine to create something. Nine Inch Nails is a perfect example of a prolific artist who used machines to sculpt their sound. It’s all about how you use the tool that determines art, not which tools you are using.”

The release of the single followsthe band receiving their fourth #1, for their Carnal album, on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay and Mediabase Active Rock charts with ‘Freefall’ featuring Chris Daughtry released on all digital outlets – The video movingly tells the story about a firefighter who is struggling with his mental health and unexpectedly finds a new life-direction after making a chance connection with a homeless dog.
