Opeth have dropped something special to mark the one-year anniversary of The Last Will and Testament: a stunning animated video for ‘§3’ that brings the album’s twisted family drama into sharp visual focus.
Created by Absynthe Moon Media, this isn’t your standard music video. It’s a carefully crafted visual interpretation of the narrative that’s had fans dissecting lyrics and theories since the album landed in November 2024. The animation returns us to the heart of the story, a 1920s patriarch’s will reading where family relationships fracture and tensions simmer beneath polite surfaces.
Guided by Mikael Åkerfeldt’s original concept, the visuals amplify the album’s core themes: identities built on lies, legacies that crumble under scrutiny, and the slow unravelling of people who thought they understood their place in the family hierarchy.
IT’S PURE PROG METAL MADNESS. The Last Will and Testament stands as one of Opeth‘s most ambitious works, a concept album that demands attention and rewards repeat listens. This animated companion piece adds another layer to an already complex narrative, making it essential viewing for anyone who’s been living with this record for the past year.
The band aren’t stopping there. They’ve got an extensive 2026 tour schedule lined up, hitting North America hard in February before festival appearances across Europe through the summer. UK fans can catch them at Halifax’s The Piece Hall on 1st August, with a Dublin show the following night.
