Parkway Drive are deep in the writing process for a brand new album, and it sounds like it is going to hit harder than anything they have done in years.
Speaking on the Everblack podcast (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), frontman Winston McCall confirmed the band are writing daily and in no rush to cut corners. He described the current stage as a very awesome writing stage, adding that when you sit back and think it is going to make people’s heads explode, that is a nice feeling to have.
On the musical direction, McCall did not hold back, calling it the most powerful Parkway Drive has been and probably the most intense sounding music they have created in a very long time. He described moments in the studio where the band are pushing themselves to play faster than they ever have and to make the heaviest thing they have ever done.
The new record will be the follow up to 2022’s Darker Still, which saw the Byron Bay five piece push into more traditional heavy metal territory and earned them their third consecutive number one on the Australian ARIA Charts. McCall explained that a new album had been planned earlier but was delayed by the opportunity to perform a career defining show at the Sydney Opera House with a full symphonic orchestra in June 2025.
That show is not going to waste either. McCall revealed that a live album and a concert film from the Opera House performance are both on the way, with the film set to hit cinemas. He described the masters as absolutely mental and said he is very proud of how it turned out.
For the rest of 2026, the plan is simple: writing music and not much else. Parkway Drive will tour only in Australia this year, keeping the focus squarely on delivering what could be their most important record yet.
