The villainous purveyors of all things weirdly dark and morosely beautiful are at it again. Picture Ann‘s ‘The Law of Whispers and Low Voices’ single was released on September 12 by the consistently brilliant Gymnocal Industries and is available in all the relevant digital music stores out there. In addition to the title track, the single also contains an exclusive B-side titled ‘Yellowed Bones.’
‘The Law of Whispers and Low Voices’ is a meditation on the abstract memories of the past that haunt us and a twisted love letter to the vile characters that appear in the Sherlock Holmes stories. What you get is a deceptively simple tune containing harrowing textures.
The song is the first taste from the upcoming album, suitably named ‘There Are Only Goodbyes Between Us.’ With the overall themes that course through the album’s brooding content being control, lies, and manipulation in various guises, the record is an inspired and reflective piece of work that explores the odd and spiteful corners of the mind while also managing to tug at the heartstrings by means of its inherent melancholy. Available for pre-ordering now and set for an October 3 release.
Inspired by the Dark Romantic writers of old, postmodern novels and films, urban architecture, desolate nature, and the notion that humans are fallible and prone to self-destruction, Picture Ann paints an intimate portrait of an unpredictable world and all the strange and soul-destroying encounters that make life worth living.
