Udenfor, the latest 2-track EP by Danish/Norwegian post-rockers Picture Ann, is out December 18.
The title track came about one late afternoon when walking through a wintry cityscape, pondering the impact of Don DeLillo’s The Body Artist on yours truly and how that overlooked literary gem eloquently and elegantly thematizes the idea of a traumatized person existing outside the spheres of language, time, and temporality. What happens when everything we know is no longer in the service of rationality due to a corrosive and soul-destroying loss? Is it even possible to exist outside those constructs?
‘A Stirring Reflection on Graves‘ is essentially a musical meditation on our fleeting mortality, the inevitability of death, and the harrowing prospect of slowly moving through dismal gates only to find that something much darker and more frightening awaits us all. That sounds rather Lovecraftian, does it not?
If you need a bit of gloom and despair in your life, Udenfor is for you as it is an introspective and brooding musical odyssey that rewards the patient listener. Not to be missed!
