Progressive alternative rockers Pure Reason Revolution has a new single out – It’s ‘Cruel Betrayal (Wondastation Remix)’, a reworking of the track ‘Betrayal’ from their most recent studio album Coming Up To Consciousness.
Band member Jon Courtney commented: “Love this epic mix from Wondastation, it’s a real journey, pulling in the listener from start to end. ‘Betrayal’ has been dissected, but beautifully reassembled, pushing the track to harmonic heights, enjoy!”
A digital deluxe edition of Coming Up To Consciousness is also now available – It features instrumentals of the entire album, two stripped down versions, as well as a remix of the track ‘Betrayal’ by KC Blitz (Bring Me The Horizon). You can listen to it here.
Coming Up To Consciousness is the third of the band’s post-hiatus renaissance records that began with 2020’s Eupnea and continued with 2022’s Above Cirrus. Like its predecessors, it is intensely personal. Its eight tracks are all between four and seven minutes long – concise by PRR standards – and they grapple with darkness of various kinds.
The band was thrilled to work with multiple members of prog icon The Pineapple Thief; the record was mixed by Bruce Soord, mastered by Steve Kitch, and featured Jon Sykes playing bass on one track. Coming Up To Consciousness is also the third PRR album to feature cover art by Jill Tegan Doherty, who Courtney originally met in Berlin on a German language course.
The album is available as a limited CD+DVD digipak (featuring 5.1 Surround sound & high resolution stereo mixes), standard CD jewel case, as well as a gatefold ReVinyl LP (Recycled Vinyl), and digitally in both stereo and Dolby Atmos – They can be ordered here.
