Sunjay Announces Tenth Album Split The Sheets

Award-winning British blues and roots artist Sunjay has announced his tenth studio album, Split The Sheets, due 18th September 2026 via Mighty Tight Records, alongside the release of its first single, ‘Take Out Some Insurance’, a reimagining of the Jimmy Reed classic.

It’s a track that doesn’t tiptoe around. Where Reed‘s original swings with that effortless looseness, Sunjay‘s version leans into weight and groove, delivering something fuller, heavier and deliberately more physical. If you’re looking for some old school rock n roll jam, this might be for you.

Speaking about the album, Sunjay said: “It’s my tenth album and the final covers record I’ll be making. It closes a long chapter of interpretation and learning, and it allowed me to take everything I’ve absorbed over the years and use it without restraint. I didn’t want a polite record, I wanted something with weight, groove and emotional honesty.”

On the single, he added: “‘Take Out Some Insurance’ felt like the right place to start because it allowed me to be bold. My version leans into weight, groove and tension. It’s fuller, heavier, and deliberately more physical. It sets the tone for the album as a whole: respectful of the source, but unafraid to push the song into a contemporary emotional and sonic space.”

Produced by Sunjay himself, with Josh Clark on drums and bass, Bob Fridzema (known for his work with King King, Joanne Shaw Taylor and Walter Trout) on Hammond organ, plus Joe Wilkins on electric guitar and backing vocals alongside Astrid Hogendijk and Sarah Warren, the track was recorded with an emphasis on dynamics and impact rather than retro nostalgia.

With a run of UK live dates kicking off in May, Split The Sheets is shaping up to be a significant chapter for an artist who has spent a decade earning every note.
