Tall Stories from Alley

If someone telling stories exploring both the lighter and darker side of life is right down your street, then check out Alley, a four piece band based down on the South Coast of England.

The band’s focus is indie alternative pop/rock that balances honesty with strong melodies and thoughtful songwriting, yet came together by chance. While in a pub, rhythm guitarist Robbie Davies overheard Ali Wood, possibly worse for drink, singing a Christmas song. Making a mental note, nine months later the band was born.

Now, Alley is ready to reach a wider audience, and has released Tall Stories, the band’s five-track debut EP, inviting listeners to connect with the experiences that shape us all, whether those moments come from personal memories or the lives of people around us.

Tall Stories features two previously released singles, ‘The Release (Now It’s Over)’ and ‘Song For A Diva’ alongside three brand new tracks exploring themes of love and loss, pleasure and trauma, reflecting the complexities of everyday life. All told through “honest lyrics and relatable narratives”.

‘Watching You Leave’ is about the painful realisation that a relationship has truly come to an end and that there is no turning back. By contrast, ‘The Release (Now It’s Over)’ is a heartfelt song about emotional transformation, self-discovery, and reclaiming identity and ‘Song For A Diva’ concerns quiet reflection, vulnerability, and the tension between taking risks and simply drifting through life.

Fourth track, ‘La La Land’ shifts tone into a more surreal space, imagining a fantasy world where boundaries blur and consequences fade away. Then the EP closes with ‘Daytime Drinking’, its playful and energetic sound belying a deeper message as beneath the surface lies a candid reflection on the reality of heavy drinking, recounting the repetitive cycle of blackout, regret, and starting again.
