Tarja Returns with Frisson Noir

Tarja Turunen‘s Frisson Noir is due for release on 12th June 2026 through earMUSIC, and is being touted as the heaviest record of the former Nightwish singer’s career.

Described as a powerful declaration of identity, strength and belonging, after years of exploring different musical landscapes, the formidable Finnish vocalist is said to be standing firmly where she belongs: in metal.

Reflecting her ongoing dialogue between cinematic orchestration, classical heritage and the power and intensity of contemporary metal, Tarja‘s distinctive voice remains the main ingredient, moving effortlessly between fragile emotional expression and operatic power.

Mixed by GRAMMY winning producer Neal Avron (Linkin Park, Skillet, Disturbed), a number of guest musicians are involved.

Tracks featured are: ‘Frisson Noir’, ‘The Eternal Return’, ‘Leap Of Faith’ featuring fellow ex Nightwish member Marko Hietala, ‘At Sea’ featuring Mervi Myllyoja and Niklas Pokki, ‘Blaze Forever’, ‘The Trace Outlives’ featuring Sayo Komada, ‘Tango’ featuring Apocalyptica, ‘Anemoia’ featuring Julián Bedmar and Valter Freitas, ‘I Don’t Care’ featuring Cradle Of Filth‘s Dani Filth, and ‘Against The Odds’ featuring Red Hot Chili PeppersChad Smith.

Ahead of the album comes ‘At Sea’, available to stream as a single now and with a video you can check out below.

The track combines Tarja‘s voice with live musicians, orchestral arrangements and choir performances recorded in Budapest with the Budapest Art Orchestra and Budapest Art Choir, conducted by Gyorgy Gulyas Nagy. The result is a heavy metal endeavour within a cinematic sonic landscape that mirrors the emotional journey of the song itself: the tension between fear and determination when facing the unknown.

Frisson Noir will be available in a variety of formats here.
