Textures announced their disbandment in 2018, six years later they announced their return with Genotype – Described as a “monumental resurgence to the forefront of modern progressive music and a powerful reaffirmation of everything that made them a force in the first place”. That album is due from 23rd January on Kscope.
Ahead of that the Dutch band issue their new single ‘Vanishing Twin’. Inspired by personal experience of the band members, it explores the rarely discussed syndrome.
“I have two relatives who struggle with the so-called Lost or Vanishing Twin syndrome,” said drummer Stef Broks. “This happens when two foetuses emerge in the womb, but one of them is absorbed by the woman’s body or the other twin. The remaining child that is being born will often deal with the traumatic feeling of having lost a brother/sister and this can shape their life in a significant way.”
Serving as the conceptual counterpart to 2016’s Phenotype, forthcoming album Genotype is not a continuation but considered a rebirth. For nearly a decade, fans speculated about its existence, but what arrives now is not a relic of unfinished ideas – It’s something entirely new, written from scratch and self-produced. Mixed by Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus), lyrically, the album is said to speak to the unheard – Introverts, outsiders, and those navigating internal worlds that often go unseen, standing as an ode to authenticity and resilience.
Tracks featured on the new album are: ‘Void’, ‘At The Edge Of Winter’, ‘Measuring The Heavens’, ‘Nautical Dusk’, Vanishing Twin’, ‘Closer To The Unknown’, ‘A Seat For The Like-Minded’ and ‘Walls Of The Soul’.
Genotype will be available as a genotype coke bottle green splatter vinyl LP, white and blue marble vinyl in gatefold sleeve with printed lyric insert , genotype classic black vinyl LP with printed insert and as a cd digipak – It can be ordered here.
The band’s previous single was ‘At The Edge Of Winter’ – Featuring Charlotte Wessels (ex-Delain) – It blends atmospheric synthesisers, intricate sound design, and polyrhythmic grooves with massive riffs and soaring vocal lines. The modern, bombastic mix is accompanied by a new video directed by Textures’ bassist Remko Tielemans with the lyrics exploring introspection, looking within, and understanding the roots of emotion.
