The Gathering’s Anneke van Giersbergen Issues La Mort

The Gathering’s Anneke van Giersbergen has a new solo EP, La Mort, due out on 27th March with an exclusive vinyl edition to follow on 18th April for Record Store Day.

La Mort is the second part in a trilogy that traces an intimate emotional journey through love, loss and grief, inspired by the passing of both of her parents within just two months of each other. Preceded by La Vie, with L’Amour to follow.

“Not every song on La Mort is literally about death, writing doesn’t follow rules like that, and I’m glad it doesn’t,” said van Giersbergen. “‘Sail Towards The Sun‘, however, is about saying goodbye to my father. He once built his own seaworthy sailboat, and we spent many family holidays on the water. That memory lives very close to my heart.”

La Mort features the tracks: ‘Fade In Fade Out‘, ‘Handle Me With Care‘, ‘Red Sky‘ and ‘Sail Towards The Sun‘.

As with her first EP, La Vie, the vocalist recorded the songs for La Mort with her live band, capturing an organic sound. Alongside singing and writing she herself played guitar, Allie Summers sang backing vocals, Camilla van der Kooij played violin and viola, Edward Capel reed instruments, Gijs Coolen guitars, Matthias van Beek guitars and backing vocals, Thijs Schrijnemakers keyboards, Roel Blommers on bass and Rob Snijders drums. The first single from the EP, ‘Red Sky‘, is out now.

30 years since The Gathering’s Mandylion album charted in Holland, becoming a landmark moment and their international breakthrough, the original lineup reunited for five sold out shows. For Anneke van Giersbergen, it was a return to familiar ground, and one that resonated far beyond expectations. The overwhelming response has led to a full slate of major concerts and festival appearances worldwide in 2026 with her former bandmates.
