Platinum-certified alternative rock act The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus’ latest single is ‘Slipping Through (No Kings)’, out now via Better Noise Music.
Written by lead vocalist, guitarist and founding memberRonnie Winterwith producer and songwriter Matt Squire itlooks at the societal chaos gripping America right now.
“It’s about what’s going on in our country. The destruction of it. Everything we ever stood for is ‘slipping through,’” saidWinter. “It all began with Matt Squire and I working together in Los Angeles. He played me the track, and it immediately hit me. I knew this was the moment to say something about what’s really going on and happening in our city. To put it simply,” adds the singer, who lives in Los Angeles, “my neighbors are disappearing. Families are being torn apart. And our community has reached a breaking point. These aren’t strangers, they’re our friends, our loved ones. They’re not immigrants to us, they’re neighbours. And like Jesus said, ‘Love thy neighbour.’ That’s what this song is about.”
Directed by Steve Tramposch and Jamie Lewis, the animated video for the single features destruction everywhere in a world devoid of colour. The main character watch as their friends and loved ones are snatched off the streets by masked men in menacing dark cars. The characters have Xs for eyes symbolising their disillusionment, while others also have Xs for mouths, symbolising that they’ve been quieted and have lost their voice.
Formed in 2004 in Jacksonville, Florida, USA, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus features the aforementioned Winter, his brother multi-instrumentalist Randy Winter, guitarist Josh Burke, bassist Joey Westwood, drummer John Espy, and touring keyboardist Nadeem Salam.
‘Slipping Through (No Kings)’ is a follow to last October’s ‘Home Improvement’ single, you can listen to the single here and watch the starkly animated video below.
