There’s something about Willie and the Bandits that feels like whisky warming your chest on a cold night. That rustic, loud and proud rock ‘n’ roll energy runs through everything they do, and their new single ‘Wheal Jane’ might be their most atmospheric work yet.
‘Wheal Jane’ puts you underground in the historic tin mine of the same name, and you can feel the weight of the earth pressing down through every distorted riff and shadowed vocal line.
Willie Edwards explains the band’s approach: “We wanted to show what it felt like to be down there, the pressure, the darkness, the sense of being cut off from the world above. The story is rooted in real lives and real danger.”
That commitment to authenticity extends to the music video, filmed inside an actual mine shaft. When you consider that Cornwall’s mining industry once employed over 30,000 people, with men, women, and children as young as twelve working twelve hour shifts underground, the weight of that history deserves this kind of respect.
‘Wheal Jane’ serves as the second single from upcoming album Salt Roots, due February 27, 2026. Following debut track ‘Trouble Round the Bend’, this release pushes their sound into heavier, more cinematic territory while staying rooted in storytelling. The band hit the road for a UK tour in March 2026, including an atmospheric show at Carnglaze Caverns in Liskeard.
‘Wheal Jane’ is out now on all digital platforms.
