YUNGBLUD is stripping things right back to basics with two intimate UK shows next April, a far cry from the arena-filling performances that have become his trademark. The Doncaster native will play London’s Rough Trade x Outernet on April 3rd and Kingston’s Banquet Records x Circuit on April 4th.
These stripped-back gigs come as Dom Harrison heads into Grammy season with three nominations under his belt: Best Rock Album for Idols, Best Rock Song for ‘Zombie‘, and Best Rock Performance for ‘Changes,’ the latter performed at Ozzy Osbourne‘s farewell ‘Back To The Beginning’ concert. Not bad for someone who’s gone from playing tiny venues to commanding arenas in just a few years.
The Idols album hit number one in the UK back in June, exploring themes of self-reclamation in Part One before plunging into darker territory about mortality in Part Two. It’s heavy stuff that’s resonated enough to catch the Recording Academy’s attention, placing YUNGBLUD firmly in rock’s upper echelons alongside the legends he once looked up to.
The intimate shows feel like a full-circle moment. After establishing himself as one of Britain’s most electrifying live acts (complete with MTV and O2 awards to prove it), launching his own Bludfest festival, and even nabbing a Sunday Times bestseller with his book You Need to Exist, these small venue performances are a deliberate choice rather than a step backwards.
YUNGBLUD‘s got an EP with Aerosmith out now featuring ‘My Only Angel‘, the rock legends’ first original release in over 12 years.
