Way up north in Glasgow, Scotland, 5 guys got together with the interests of mixing aggression, white noise, silly numbers and crazy live shows which in turn formed THE COLOUR PINK IS GAY. A Tech Metal band who were described as “Epileptic Tech Death” by Beard Rock, and whose debut EP, ‘i/O‘ (Available now), got an “8/10 Discombobulating” from Metal Hammer. These guys are a must see for any metal head, you won’t know where to look, how to feel, how to mosh, how to breathe or what gender you are!
The quintet consists of JJ – Vocals, Simon and Spud – Guitars/Backing Vocals, George – Drums and Gerald – Bass, and I asked them what they plan next. They told me that they have very recently just decided to get writing on their next album, after having their crazy experimental stage they plan to lay low for a while and really get writing on a full length album to follow on from their debut EP ‘i/O’. The EP is unlike any I’ve ever heard before, being 6 tracks long you get a real understanding of what the band are. Beginning with ‘Laika’, a smooth, instrumental and atmospheric track; it lulls you into a false sense of security. After that its straight into ‘Today’s Schedule – Survive the Holocaust’ filled with hazard chords and sweeping riffs you literally don’t stand a chance. The EP finishes with one of their more popular songs, ‘Maddy’, blast beats, sweeps, heavy chugs, and rolling grooves! The EP is available on band camp for Digital download or compact disc format – http://thecolourpinkisgay.bandcamp.com/album/i-o.
They’re not a particularly normal band, Simon told me he “sometimes thinks about smearing himself with marmite before going on stage” and there is an ongoing dispute between them about how chips should be eaten, as 3/5 of the band are from Glasgow and the remaining 2 from Edinburgh, they cannot come to terms with how one another eat chips, salt and sauce or salt and malt, these lads really have their priorities sorted.
Never fear though they won’t kill each other in a heated discussion, they’re a totally focused and well oiled machine on a warpath to stardom. THE COLOUR PINK IS GAY are the most intense band I’ve seen live to date and i would recommend them to anyone interested in Tech metal, Death metal and grind core. It may turn your brain to scrambled egg but as Simon says “If you eat your Shreddies, you’re ready for anything!”
