Bad Luck Friday & a Banshee

Brighton-based rock band, Bad Luck Friday release ‘Banshee’ the second single from their eponymous debut album that’s out now on Wilde Fire Records.

Featuring big guitars, wailing harp and a pounding rhythm section, it’s anthemic track just right for Halloween. The single is available to stream on Spotify here and you can check out the official music video right here at RAMzine.

Bad Luck Friday is a heavy classic rock and roll band, but instead of playing guitar solos, the songs on their debut album (with the exception of ‘Dust & Bones’) feature harmonica solos instead of the almost obligatory guitar ones.

No other rock band is doing this right now, but it takes us right back to the birth of the British rhythm and blues scene, when Cyril Davies played harp with the legendary Blues Incorporated, leading to the subsequent formation of bands like The Rolling Stones.

The harmonica player in this instance is Will Wylde, brother of British Blues Award-winning guitarist and singer Dani Wylde.  He himself having been nominated several times as Blues Instrumentalist of the Year at the UK Blues Awards.

The band formed during the ashes of the pandemic when live music ground to a halt. Frustrated but still determined and highly creative, Wilde teamed up with guitarist, Steve Brook, and together they journeyed inward and developed their original style before bringing in Jack Turnbull (bass) and Alan Taylor (drums) to complete the line-up.

Their fusion of bluesy classic rock and aggressive, contemporary hard rock encompasses anthemic choruses, catchy riffs, searing vocals, and Wilde’s blistering harmonica solos.

The band’s first single was title track, ‘Bad Luck Friday’, still available to buy and stream from here. You can check out the official music video for the single right here at RAMzine.

While influenced by bands like Audioslave, Soundgarden and Alter Bridge, their emphasis on the harmonica gives Bad Luck Friday a unique selling point in the modern music scene, by embellishing their heavy sound with a dedicated homage to blues rock. That’s not withstanding Brook’s monster guitar riffs.

Bad Luck Friday’s self-titled debut album is available on CD and coloured vinyl from here, and available in digital format here.

With music written by Wilde and Brook, and lyrics by Wilde and Sara Starbuck tracks featured are: ‘Bad Luck Friday’, ‘666 At The Crossroads’, ‘Banshee’, ‘Dust & Bones’, ‘Jealous Woman’, ‘Take The Best Of Me’, ‘Mistress’, ‘Low Down Dirty’, ‘Bonnie To My Clyde’and ‘Rebel With A Cause’.
