Black Stone Cherry have been busy working on their fifth studio outing since their formation in 2001. The band decided to move back towards their roots with this effort, as is reflected in the title Kentucky, the band’s home state in the USA.
This was a conscious creative decision by the members, going as far as recording the album at the same studio as their debut, Barrick Recording in Glasgow, Kentucky. The band’s frontman Chris Robertson explains;
“Since the release of our debut we have wanted to go back to the studio where it all began and it finally happened! The original studio owner/engineer, all of the great equipment and BLACK STONE CHERRY have been reunited for what I feel has been the most unique album we’ve ever made.”
Excitement seems rife within the band, extremely eager to release the album to the masses on 1st April 2016 through new record label home, the Mascot Label Group, after leaving Roadrunner Records in 2015. Guitarist Ben Wells describes their their latest outing as “the heaviest, most aggressive album [we’ve] ever made.” – there is no doubt then that the fans will be charging their expectations for when the album is released in April.
Through listening to their pre-release single ‘The Way of The Future’ (available now on iTunes), the bands musical style definitely seems to live up to Ben Wells’ description, not disappointing on the heavy front, complete with a huge, chunky main riff, a trademark of Black Stone Cherry. Keep your eyes and ears open for this monstrous slab of Southern Rock.
