Butcher Babies Release ‘Blame it on the Wind’

Butcher Babies have released a new single and video, ‘Blame it on the Wind’, through Judge & Jury Records. Produced by Howard Benson, it is the fourth taste of the band’s forthcoming album.

The Las Vegas hard rock and metal outfit have framed the record as a deeply personal piece, a look back across vocalist Heidi Shepherd’s last twenty-five years of relationships, heartbreaks and hard-won lessons. ‘Blame it on the Wind’ fits that theme as a seductive, slow-burning track that builds into something far heavier, with Shepherd’s commanding vocals carrying a tug-of-war between desire and blame. For reference points, the band reach for In This Moment by way of Jinjer.

Shepherd traces the song to a specific memory. “There are certain nights, certain moments, and certain connections you never fully shake,” she explains. The track turns that pull into something self-aware rather than simply romantic. “This song is about a lust you can’t leave, a denial of accountability, and a laundry list of excuses for following the white rabbit,” she adds, noting that people often blame the setting for choices that were really their own.

Butcher Babies have built their name on relentless touring since forming in 2009, blending thrash, groove and melodic metal across albums including Goliath, Take It Like a Man, Lilith and the 2023 double album Eye for an Eye and ‘Til the World’s Blind. Their reach now extends well beyond the United States, and following recent runs through the UK and Europe they head to Japan in June, with festival appearances in Osaka, Yokohama and Tokyo, before returning to the American festival circuit through the summer.

The new material arrives via Judge & Jury Records, the label founded by multi-platinum producer Howard Benson and Three Days Grace drummer Neil Sanderson.

Honestly, the way Heidi and the band have progressed their music is so good, and we are loving the melody here. Do not worry, though, the heavy moments and Heidi’s signature growls are still very much in there. We have always rated Butcher Babies, and this track is another example that when artists reach into true, deep emotion, they really do create the best music!
