Citizen share ‘Highs and Lows’ from new album

Citizen are back with new single ‘Highs and Lows’, the lead cut from forthcoming sixth album Halcyon Blues, due 7th August via Run For Cover Records. The announcement also brings worldwide tour dates including a UK leg.

The Toledo rooted band have spent over a decade as one of the most genuinely shapeshifting acts to emerge from the 2010s emo boom, moving from raw emo into menacing post hardcore, anthemic alternative, and garage y indie pop, all while their audience has steadily grown alongside them.

Halcyon Blues feels like the band gathering up everything they’ve built and pushing it forward. Recorded by singer Mat Kerekes at his home studio in Toledo and mixed by Tom Lorde Alge (U2, Weezer, Blink 182), the record reaches back to Citizen’s early work while leaning into the bigger hooks that have defined their recent material.

We’re genuinely seeing a lot of festival ready songs coming through at the moment, and ‘Highs and Lows’ lands squarely in that territory, built for summer stages and crowds singing along in unison. It’s got that expansive, anthemic quality that just works in an outdoor setting, it’s chilled rock vibes.
