David Galas and the Pillar Of Sorrow

American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist David Galas has a new single and video out in ‘Pillar Of Sorrow’, the latest track taken from his forthcoming solo album, The Nihilist, due out 12 December 2025 via These Hands Melt.

‘Pillar Of Sorrow’ presents a compelling dynamic contrast to the album’s core themes. While the track is lyrically steeped in the bitter, fatalistic isolation that defines The Nihilist, exploring the feeling of fading into loneliness, the song itself is perhaps the catchiest and lightest entry in David Galas’ entire discography, cementing its place as his most goth club-oriented track yet.

The Nihilist finds Galas, also known as a contributing member of the legendary darkwave band Lycia, returning to a raw celebration of his post-punk roots. The record can be described as his most immediate yet fatalistic songbook to date, with lyrics drenched in apocalyptic pessimism and sounds that take over the legacy of bands like The MissionMephisto Waltz, and Joy Division.

The Nihilist delivers a haunting yet driving sound, ensuring that “the fading hopes of our world have never sounded this good on a goth dancefloor”. The album will be available on CD (limited to 300 copies) and digital formats, and available to order now.

All the songs on The Nihilist were written, performed, recorded and produced by David Galas. Visuals were handled by No Faith/Federico Salvador, design by Lucia Macip & These Hands Melt, while cover photography was completed by Michalina Wozniak.

‘Syndrome’ was the second offering from the album, following the previously released single ‘The Color of Gray’ and you can check out the video below.
