With Dion’s Blues With Friends album now out on Keeping The Blues Alive Records, you’d think the first generation rock & roller would be slowing down following the release of several singles beforehand. But it seems you can’t keep a good man down and he’s just released a music video for ‘Uptown Number 7’ to celebrate the album.
What’s more it’s one of the tracks featuring guest artists, and in this case ‘Uptown Number 7’ features The Stray Cats‘ Brian Setzer.
“I wanted to write an old-fashioned gospel number in the style of the Golden Gate Quartet,” said Dion “I wanted this one to be about moving forward in the spiritual life… Having a goal… Facing temptations along the way. So, I put it all on a train, because that’s what New Yorkers do if they want to get anywhere: they take the train. I can never leave well enough alone, so one day I tried the melody in a minor key. I loved the way it turned out and that’s what you’re hearing.”
