Dave Grohl and Co. Return with Darker Edge as Queens of the Stone Age Join Forces for North American Tour
The Foo Fighters have emerged from the shadows, dropping their brooding new single ‘Asking For A Friend’ alongside the announcement of a colossal 2026 North American stadium tour that promises to shake the foundations of rock’s biggest venues.
A Darker Turn
Moving away from the infectious bounce of their smash hit ‘Today’s Song’, the Foos have taken a decidedly more menacing approach with ‘Asking For A Friend’. The track opens with hypnotic verses that slowly coil before exploding into passionate choruses questioning reality itself, “What is real? I’m asking for a friend…” – before culminating in a breakneck finale that sees Dave Grohl shredding his vocals on the ominous question: “Or is this the end?”
Brotherhood in Rock
In a heartfelt statement accompanying the release, Grohl reflected on the band’s recent journey and the bonds that have sustained them. He spoke of their triumphant return to the stage in San Luis Obispo five weeks ago, the blessing of having Ilan Rubin behind the kit, and the unwavering connection with their fans that has kept the Foo Fighters machine rolling for three decades.
But perhaps most touching was Grohl’s tribute to Josh Homme, whose Queens of the Stone Age will be joining the Foos for this stadium run. Grohl reminisced about first witnessing Kyuss at Seattle’s Off Ramp in 1992, discovering ‘Blues For The Red Sun’, and the 33-year friendship that followed. “A lifelong bond that goes far beyond the sound we’ve made together,” Grohl wrote, confirming that QOTSA will provide direct support on all dates except Fargo.
The Stadium Conquest
The tour kicks off August 4 at Toronto’s Rogers Stadium and will see the band bringing what Grohl describes as “maximum volume euphoria” to 12 North American cities, wrapping up (for now) on September 26 at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium. This marks their first stadium tour since the mammoth 2023-2024 ‘Everything or Nothing at All’ run that saw them selling out football and baseball fields globally.

August 4 – Rogers Stadium, Toronto ON
August 6 – Ford Field, Detroit MI
August 8 – Soldier Field, Chicago IL
August 10 – Huntington Bank Field, Cleveland OH
August 13 – Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia PA

Hope for British Shores
Given the Foo Fighters’ deep love affair with UK audiences, their legendary Glastonbury headline slots and their surprise appearances, like at Brighton’s Concorde 2 in 2017, plus their emotional Wembley tribute to Taylor Hawkins in 2022, it’s almost certain that British dates will materialise! The band have consistently treated the UK as their second home, and with stadium-sized appetites already whetted, an announcement for summer 2026 festival headlines and stadium shows seems inevitable.
The Promise of More
Grohl hints that ‘Asking For A Friend’ is just the beginning, “One of many songs to come” – suggesting that a new album might be on the horizon. He describes the track as being for “those who have waited patiently in the cold, relying on hope and faith for their horizon to appear.”
With the current lineup of Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett, Rami Jaffee, and Ilan Rubin firing on all cylinders, and the promise of more dates to be announced, 2026 is shaping up to be the year the Foo Fighters remind everyone why they remain one of rock’s biggest acts.
The sun, as Grohl puts it, is finally rising over the horizon. And from where we’re standing, the view looks spectacular.
