From Genesis To Revelation, the 1969 debut album from progressive rock legends Genesis, is set for a major new series of reissues, all with the full approval of original band members Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips and Mike Rutherford.
Originally released in March 1969, From Genesis To Revelation marked the first chapter in the story of a band that would go on to achieve immense success and lasting acclaim. These new editions are said to offer the most comprehensive and revealing presentation of the album to date, revisiting this vital early work with fresh perspective and unprecedented depth.
At the heart of all formats is a powerful new stereo mix by Stephen W Tayler, created with a renewed focus on the band’s performances and less emphasis on the orchestral elements that shaped the original release. The result has been described as “both revelatory and immersive”, bringing new clarity and immediacy while preserving the spirit of the recordings. The double vinyl edition also includes a bonus 12-inch EP with new mixes of ‘A Winter’s Tale’, ‘One Eyed Hound’, ‘Image Blown Out’ and ‘Visions Of Angels’, the last of these previously unreleased.
The centrepiece is the deluxe 5-disc 4CD + Blu-ray box set, a richly expanded edition that presents the album in multiple forms. Alongside the new stereo mix, it gathers newly remastered versions of the original mono and stereo LP mixes, associated singles, rare recordings and a full disc of demos from 1967 and 1968, four of which are previously unreleased and newly mixed by Tayler. The Blu-ray features 96 kHz / 24-bit Dolby Atmos, 5.1 Surround Sound and stereo mixes, offering the chance to experience the album in high-resolution audio.
The box set also includes exclusive video content of Banks, Gabriel and Rutherford in conversation at AIR Studios in London, reflecting on the album and reviewing the new mixes. Completing the package is a 68-page illustrated book with an extensive essay by Jon Dann, featuring contributions from all four founding members, placing the album in its proper historical and creative context.
The new editions are said to shine fresh light on a fascinating and formative release, the sound of Genesis at the very beginning, revisited with care, insight and the collaboration of the musicians who made it.
