Following the imminent release of a new self-titled album, Jared James Nichols has announced a rare one-off concert in London at The Black Heart on Wednesday 22nd February.
Nichols’s special guests will be Bad Luck Friday featuring vocalist and the leading UK harp player, Will Wilde. Tickets for the London concert are available from here.
“The one aspect that really excites me about music is live performance,” said Nichols. “I live to be in the moment on stage, playing music and connecting with the listener. When it was time to make my latest record, that was the biggest goal for me. I wanted to be the music, take the listener on a sonic journey, and ultimately put my stamp as an artist to record. I cannot wait to tour this album, what you hear on record is exactly what you’ll get in the flesh. These songs were made to be played live and played loud!”
Jared James Nichols will be out on Friday 13th January through Black Hill Records, and it will be the singer/songwriter, guitarist, and Gibson brand ambassador’s third full-length offering, and features the singles ‘Down The Drain’ and ‘Hard Wired’. In fact, the forthcoming collection is said to showcase every side of the Nashville-based multi-talent and the various genres he grew up listening to, whether it was grunge or blues, that have influenced his sound.
“I made a record to serve as the menu for the live show,” Nichols said. “There’s an element of excitement and danger. It’s my version of rock ‘n’ roll with a little more humanity. The album is a day in the life with the ups and downs, but it musically rings true to who I am as an artist. I’m not trying to be anybody but myself and play the music I love for today. I’m giving you loud ass guitars and no fucks given rock ‘n’ roll, and I’m loving it.”
Produced, engineered, and mixed by Eddie Spear (Zach Bryan, Slash, Rival Sons) and recorded live in the studio at Blackbird Studios and Sienna Studios – They occurred at a pivotal moment for Nichols, who almost never performed again as he had been side-lined only a few months earlier with a broken arm. Surgery left him with a plate and 16 screws in his right arm, but the guitarist pushed himself with diligence and determination to regain use of his arm and his storied guitar proficiency.
The positive results began with the ‘Hard Wired’ single, last Spring. Born from a jam session with Tyler Bryant and Graham Whitford, the single bulldozed a path for Jared James Nichols with no shortage of raw and raucous six-string bravado. From the jump, the album kicks into high gear with the bluesy wallop of ‘My Delusion’.
Elsewhere on the 12-track collection is the Black Sabbath-inspired ‘Hallelujah’, where a flurry of drums gives way to a thick and heavy battering ram of a blues riff only to crash into a rickety bass line and atomic shredding, and the party homage ‘Good Time Girl’. The record culminates with the emotionally charged ‘Out Of Time’, his heartfelt and tearful tribute to his late father. See below for full track listing.
The full tracklisting is: ‘My Delusion’, ‘Easy Come’, ‘Easy Go’, ‘Down The Drain’, ‘Hard Wired’, ‘Bad Roots’, ‘Skin ‘N Bone’, ‘Long Way to Go’, ‘Shadow Dancer’, ‘Good Time Girl, ‘Hallelujah, ‘Saint Or Fool’ and ‘Out Of Time’.
