Following last year’s tour of the UK, The SatchVai Band featuring guitar virtuosos Joe Satriani and Steve Vai return with a brand new single in ‘Dancing’ out now via earMUSIC.
The track is a reimagined interpretation of a song by iconic Italian singer, pianist and songwriter Paolo Conte, with Satriani commenting, “‘Dancing’ really captures the playful side of what Steve and I discovered on stage together last summer – that push-and-pull of melody and energy.”
Vai added, “This band thrives on surprise – musically and visually. ‘Dancing’ is a perfect example of that. It’s melodic but relentless, and the video turns that energy into a kind of surreal comedy.”
The single is available on all streaming platforms now, while you can watch its accompanying video directed by Satriani‘s son, ZZ Satriani, below.
The video stars actor, comedian and musician Brendon Small (Metalocalypse, Dethklok), a longtime friend of both guitarists, who portrays an overzealous talent manager pushing the duo to cast dancers for the band’s upcoming live show. Eagle-eyed fans will also spot a cameo from the band’s drummer Kenny Aronoff.
Take some of that classic Diamond Dave Lee Roth humour (where Vai was never the fall guy), mix and match it with Jeff Beck‘s too rarely seen ‘Ambition’ (where Donnie Osmond made a great vocal cameo) and you’ll have an idea of where the video to ‘Dancing’ is heading.
However, if someone was looking to reboot Jodorowsky’s 70s acid western movie El Topo in a Monty Python manner, they’d not go far wrong using the SatchVai Band‘s latest offering as theme tune. It adds sauce to the spaghetti, throws in some electronic maracas, and the fizzed-up rippling guitars of Satriani and Vai raise a smile via their rather catchy melody.
The band are about to take their Surfing With The Hydra tour across the USA, supported by progressive metal act Animals As Leaders.
