Kaaboos’s Anti-Cosmic Rebellion

Iranian black metal project Kaaboos, led by Omid (aka Atash), released new album, Anti-Cosmic Rebellion, that’s now available digitally.

For fans of Behexen, Seed Of Iblis and Dissection, Anti-Cosmic Rebellion is said to deliver a relentless and immersive sonic experience that delves deep into themes of rebellion, darkness, and transcendence through anti-religious mutiny. The lyrics of songs such as ‘Qasam Be Shaytan’, performed in Omid’s native Farsi, express a strong and defiant nihilism towards religion, particularly Islam. Other tracks, including the intro, incorporate verses from the Quran sung in reverse.

Mixed and mastered by Manticore Productions, with cover art by Viltisvm, tracks featured are: ‘Al-Fatihah’, ‘Wrath Of Gods’, ‘Shadows Of Death’, ‘Possessed By The Void’, ‘Mesmerized’, ‘Qasam Be Shaytan’, ‘To Evil Thou Shall Succumb’, ‘Solar Apocalypse’, ‘Nordnundet’ a Taake cover, and ‘Al-Etmam’.

Omid fled Iran in 2019 seeking refuge in Norway, known for its deep black metal history. There he envisioned Norway as a place where he could freely express himself musically and delve deeper into the genre’s spiritual and empowering aspects. After four years of residing in Norway, the Norwegian Immigration offices (UDI & UNE) rejected his asylum claim and issued a deportation order. The decision disregards the potential dangers Atash faces upon returning to Iran – Heavy metal, punk, and rock are deemed blasphemous and illegal there and participation in such music can lead to severe punishment, imprisonment, or even death.

He has a chance to appeal the decision, but legal representation comes at a steep cost. Currently unemployed due to his asylum seeker status, he is struggling to cover basic necessities, let alone the remaining legal fees. A fundraiser to raise the necessary funds for his legal battle can be found here.

Kaaboos previously released two videos from performances in front of the Iranian Embassy in Oslo, Norway, one of which Wrath of Gods was selected among Metal Hammer UK’s tracks of the week.

The album is now available digitally via Bandcamp and YouTube, under the label Iblis Manifestations. Physical copies will follow in early 2025.
